Bamboo, Coconut, Acai Palm Plantation Bamboo Planet 7.35 ac. 13683 Pohoiki Road Pahoa, HI 96778 Located in lower Puna, on the Big Island of Hawaii, near Pahoa, at 350' elevation and 2 miles inland is Bamboo Planet. Bamboo Planet is a diverse, innovative, and sustain-ably motivated plantation with a variety of tropical resources. Started in 1999 there are now 30 varieties of bamboo, all non-invasive clumpers, mostly timber with some ornamentals. The bamboo here represents an ongoing sustainable building resource, and with the large variety we have to choose from there is a bamboo for every need. Even the ornamental bamboos have use in trim details or model making. Diversity is good in any plantation and we are partly diversified with Coconuts as a sustainable organic food source. The coconut trees here are an important asset and with 200 trees producing there is opportunity for commercial production. To innovate further Bamboo Planet invested in 60 rare Euterpe oleracea dwarf palms commonly known as Acai palms. Originally grown in South America for centuries the Acai palms are grown for "heart of palm" or the powerful purple berries abundantly rich in antioxidants. We hope to get berries this year of their fourth season. With the bamboo, coconuts and acai palms there is ample opportunity for commercial levels of supply of valuable tropical resources. There are also a large variety of other types of palms, tropical fruits, nuts, many types of tropical aromatic flowers, and citrus trees. The scent of "Night Blooming Jasmine" flowing in the bedroom windows at night will reinforce that you truly are in paradise. Bamboo Planet has two County approved structures, with county water, and is off the grid with a 1500w solar array power source. Cell phone service is available in the area as well as internet from the same provider. The main house is a two bedroom, two bath, 1728 ft. sq. plus 480 ft. sq. covered lanai's on two levels, with ocean views overlooking the plantation to the Southeast. From the hand-carved Balinese doors, to the custom local tropical Chocolate Heart Albezia cabinetry in the kitchen and baths, attention to quality detail is evident throughout. Granite countertops and marble baths are throughout along with bamboo flooring in both buidings upstairs. The main house has an attached two car carport. The studio building is also a two story building with beautifully crafted bamboo details, has a kitchen, bath, and is 1120 ft. sq. plus a 300 sq. ft. lanai on two levels. The lower level of the studio building is currently used as a shop and storage space. Also included in the sale of Bamboo Planet is a New Holland TC 30 tractor with 5' PTO driven mower and 4' Toro set-down mower used to maintain the property. The tropical furniture and appliances all go with the sale. A few pieces of art and furniture will not be included and will be marked. Bamboo Planet is located near the best boating, fishing and surfing on the Big Island. Just two miles from the newly renovated boat ramp you can swim with tropical fish, surf, or go boating and fishing with ease. There are warm pockets of geothermally heated water near the boat ramp making swimming comfortable year round, and a warm pond is also located another mile down the world famous Red Road. This part of Hawaii just happens to have the cleanest air in Hawaii and possibly the world. The predominant wind is from the North East called the Trade Winds which come from Alaska across the Pacific. The trades give Hawaii a low humidity cool breeze keeping the temperature around 80 degrees all the time. The coolest I have seen is 62 degrees. Rainfall varies from 75" to 125" per year and mostly comes in the evening and early mornings. We are currently compiling a photo documentation of the plantation and all of its diversity. I can email more photos or answer any questions of any aspect of the plantation that you wish. mahalo, James Contact this seller
